On Monday 22 August Mario after a long trip from Biarritz, France arrived at San Giovanni Rotondo and before going to the Geriatrcs Dpt. is now under configuration at the ICT, Innovation & Research Dpt. of IRCCS.
Have a look at the unboxing and first tests. During the next months the first validation trials are going to take place in all three pilot sites of Mario and the expected users will have their first interaction experiences with them. Discussion with Dympna Casey, Professor & Professor National University of Ireland, Galway about European Project, MARIO - Companion Robot for Care. Companion Robots be the feature of Dementia care. European project Mario is looking at how care service robots can serves as a companion to those Dementia. The project is led by the School of Nursing and Midwifery at NUI Galway. MARIO addresses the difficult challenges of loneliness, isolation and dementia in older persons through innovative and multi-faceted inventions delivered by service robots. The effects of these conditions are severe and life-limiting. They burden individuals and societal support systems. Human intervention is costly but the severity can be prevented and/or mitigated by simple changes in self-perception and brain stimulation mediated by robots.
Irish Times, one of the most prominent and popular newpapers in Ireland wrote an article on Mario discussing how companion robots can help face loneliness and isolation that people with dementia are experiencing.
MARIO Kompaï was presented in INNOROBO 2016 (https://innorobo.com/fr/accueil/) that was held in Paris from May 24th to 26th.
